Marc revient à Berlin après une assez longue absence et sa femme Anna l'accueille avec froideur. Il découvre qu'elle a un amant, Heinrich, et cherche à rencontrer celui-ci. Anna quitte l'appartement conjugal et Marc met un détective à ses trousses. Ce n'est pas chez Heinrich qu'elle est partie. Elle se terre dans un logement minable avec un compagnon mystérieux et ceux qui cherchent à forcer son secret ne tardent pas à le regretter. Après avoir mis son jeune fils Bob en sécurité, Marc décide de faire face à la situation, si pénible soit-elle.
